Long-Term V-Band Monitoring of the Bright Stars of M33 at the Wise Observatory
نویسندگان
چکیده
We have conducted a long-term V -band photometric monitoring of M33 on 95 nights during four observing seasons (2000 – 2003). A total number of 6418 lightcurves of bright objects in the range of 14 – 21 mag have been obtained. All measurements are publicly available. A total of 127 new variables were detected, of which 28 are periodic. Ten previously known nonperiodic variables were identified as periodic, 3 of which are Cepheids, and another previously known periodic variable was identified as an eclipsing binary. Our derived periods range from 2.11 to almost 300 days. For 50 variables we have combined our observations with those of the DIRECT project, obtaining lightcurves of up to 500 measurements, with a time-span of ∼7 years. We have detected a few interesting variables, including a 99.3 day periodic variable with a 0.04 mag amplitude, at the position of SNR 19.

Nearly simultaneous multiband monitoring of blazars is very limited and most studies reported in literature are conflicting, too. Although optical variability on intra-night timescales is now a well established phenomenon for blazars, its relationship to long-term variability remains unclear. Possible clues could come from monitoring the optical spectrum for correlation with brightness. The pr...

We present the results of deep I and V-band photometry of the halo stars near the southeast minor axis of the Local Group spiral galaxy M33. An (I, V − I) color-magnitude diagram distinctly reveals the red giant branch stars at the bright end of the color-magnitude diagram. A luminosity function in the I-band which utilizes a background field to remove the contaminating effects of Galactic fore...

In this study, 1200 images and catalogues of M33 spiral galaxy taken by WFCAM camera at UKIRT telescope in J, H and K bands. Cross correlation methods were employed to identify stars in overlapping regions from among images taken in different dates. Careful astrometric and photometric analysis was made to calibrate stellar positions and magnitudes using their 2MASS near infra red survey. The fi...
متن کاملPulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...

DIRECT is a project to obtain directly the distances to two Local Group galaxies, M31 and M33, which occupy a crucial position near the bottom of the cosmological distance ladder. As the first step of the DIRECT project we have searched for detached eclipsing binaries (DEBs) and new Cepheids in the M31 and M33 galaxies with 1m-class telescopes. In this eighth paper we present a catalog of varia...
